FAQ
Yes, absolutely.
However, requirements may vary depending on the car supplier and destination country. The car supplier may also have a minimum age limit of 21 years old for rentals.
Can I rent a car with a provisional driving licence?
No, unfortunately the car rental suppliers we are working with do not accept provisional driving licences.
You must hold a full driving licence to hire a car.
Unfortunately, a copy of your licence will not be accepted at the rental desk. You will need to present the original document at pick-up.
If your licence was lost or stolen and you have already booked a car rental through us, we recommend that you either request a name change on the reservation to someone traveling with you, or cancel the reservation if this is not an option. If you change the name of the main driver, the new driver will need to present all the mandatory documents in their own name at the rental desk.
If you need to change the name urgently with less than 72 hours, please contact us through our live chat option and we will try to assist you straight away.
We recommend that you check the licence requirements for your specific booking to determine whether you will require an international driving licence or not.
If your licence is not printed in the Latin alphabet (i.e. Arabic, Greek, Russian) you will almost always need an international driving licence.
If an international driving licence is required for your booking, you will also be required to bring your domestic licence with you to present it along with your international driving licence.
The following may need to be presented at the rental desk:
1. Credit card with enough funds to cover the excess (debit cards usually not accepted).
2. The main driver's original licence, physical licence, held for a minimum of one year (some suppliers may require longer, please check your terms and conditions).
3. Additional photo ID.
4. Your digital car hire voucher.
5. Any other documentation specified on your booking voucher.
There might be some differences in documentation required based on where you are renting and which supplier you are renting with. Make sure to check your rental conditions for your specific rental. All required documentation needs to be in the main driver's name.
If you are picking up from an airport location, we recommend that you enter your flight arrival number during the booking process along with the driver details in order to help the supplier track your flight.
In the event of unexpected changes to your flight times, they may hold the car for you outside of your pick-up time, as long as it is still within opening hours.
If you already have a booking, you can add or update your flight number on the Manage Booking section of our website by navigating to the 'Jump to' section and selecting Flight Number and adding/editing the flight details.
If your flight number is not added to the booking or you experience delays during travel, please contact the car rental provider directly on the desk telephone number on your voucher to see if they can accommodate you.
Generally, UK photo card licence holders will not need an International Driving Permit (IDP) in order to drive in the EU/EEA after Brexit. However, you may be required to have an international licence in addition to your UK domestic license to hire a car in certain EU/EEA countries if:
-You do not hold a photo card licence (i.e. you have a paper licence).
-Your licence was issued in Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, or Gibraltar.
You can easily obtain an IDP at your local UK post office. You can read more about driving in the EU after Brexit as a UK licence holder here.
